Jack Chen is a 26-year-old Asian American man who is sent to New York to recover from a bittersweet love affair with a girl named Jenny. Jack seeks shelter with his uncle, who settles Jack down in a house he rents out in Queens, near a cemetery. Renting in the same house is Lana Lin, a free spirited Chinese woman, a go-getter who is not afraid to pursue her own desires. She is despised by most, including Jack and his uncle, because she works as a prostitute. Jack takes a job as a delivery boy in his uncle's Chinatown retail store in New York City. Indulging himself with memories of Jenny as he moves around Manhattan, Jack is often absent-minded and depressed. Hiding from the crowds and noise of the city, Jack prefers to remain aloof and seeks comfort at a younggirl's grave in the cemetery. Meanwhile, Lana cheerfully flaunts her uninhibited lifestyle.
